iPersonally™ may be a new approach and attitude towards dementia care and support, but, having said that, it is well established and in operation in the pioneering dementia care centre, Birch Abbey in Southport. The core value of iPersonally is that it drives and promotes the positive options available to people with dementia and to their families, making available a much wider range of services from which‘personalised services can be easily created and administered. The iPersonally approach is driving an understanding that while the onset of dementia cannot be reversed, it can be contained or slowed - primarily by stimulating the mind and keeping the body even just mildly active. iPersonally creates those options for people with dementia. At the heart of iPersonally is the belief that technology should be better harnessed to support people with dementia, their carers and wider support network. “MyAmego” is a specialist monitoring system, invented by the creator of iPersonally, to support people with dementia. MyAmego (www.myamego.co.uk), an award-winning world’s-first, is now being installed in care homes, day centres, “extra care” flats and individuals' homes. Information, skills and knowledge are fundamental to transforming the life experience of people with dementia. The iPersonally Academy is developing the skills and training courses that are needed for family and professional carers alike. Access to the online service is free of charge to iPersonally family members and to authorised iPersonally providers. While Birch Abbey applies the iPersonally attitude and approach to dementia care, the iPersonally concept is also available to like-minded person-centred care organisations both in the UK and internationally.
